BYU Mars Rover

The BYU Mars Rover presents several unique challenges in the area of Mechanical Design. The Rover needs to be maneuverable, fast, and light weight, while being large enough to overcome the most common obstacles found in the rough terrain at the competition site, and flexible enough to be quickly adapted to various needs. Because of this, we are often looking for new ways to do things, new designs for parts, and new technologies that will help us retain an edge over the competition. Some of the biggest areas of research possibilities are: composites design, compliant mechanisms, and modular design.
